About
My name is Bob Porter and I am a third-generation landscaper, building unique residential designs in the Oakland, Wayne and Genessee Counties of Michigan.
My father is often referred to as the father of the snow plow service industry here in Southeastern Michigan and owned his own full-service company, after inheriting it from his father, until his retirement. My father’s company had many facets, including lawn maintenance, landscape construction, irrigation installation and snow plowing. My father even worked for Matilda Dodge Wilson, maintaining and planting on her grounds — Meadowbrook Hall in Rochester.
I have been working in the landscape industry since high school graduation (and several summers before that) in 1981. For about five years, I ran my father’s lawn maintenance division. I then moved out west and in Aspen, Colorado I was a landscape construction project manager, building the design for Prince Bandar’s estate. I began my own landscape construction company six summers ago.
Since Colorado, I have focussed my passions in landscaping to designing and building with natural stone and water features. I have several years of college education in horticulture and soil sciences. I am now a member of The Stone Foundation and in Fall of 2007, I travelled to the Island of Mallorca in Spain to study stone artisanship in the old world style at the annual Stone Foundation symposium.
My landscape builds have won awards in Detroit Home Magazine.
In the winter, I run a commercial snowplow company — servicing a number of large malls and other businesses.

For those interested in Landscape Artisan –
We know Bob and his family through our school. Bob and his terrific crew at Landscape Artisan did work for us last summer, rebuilding a large brick paver patio that had been installed incorrectly, directing water towards the house.
It was a tricky job, one that the other contractors we spoke with didn’t seem to grasp, or care to take on.
Bob and his staff reused our brick, laid a proper base, and established a solid drainage system that, a year later is holding tight.
In addition to their technical expertise, Landscape Artisan truly provides an artisan’s touch. Bob worked with us to create a new design for our brickwork and landscape which incorporated existing elements and took advantage of natural methods of water drainage as well.
We couldn’t be happier with the results!
Peace,
The Thomas Family
